A Performance Evaluation Model for Korean Coastal Passenger Ships
Abstract
This study proposes a practical and simple performance evaluation model for small and medium sized coastal passenger ships. The international standard ISO19030 works well for large ships, but it is too complex and costly for smaller coastal passenger ships. To solve this issue, the study uses three key indicators engine performance, propulsion performance, and fuel efficiency. These indicators were measured using logbook data and AIS tracking data to analyze performance changes. The results show that the proposed model is both effective and practical for evaluating smaller coastal passenger ships. Compared to ISO19030, this model is easier to use and more cost effective. The study also found that regular dock inspections and maintenance help improve performance, and adjusting RPM is an important factor for performance improvement. However, this study did not fully consider external factors such as currents, wind direction, and cargo weight. Future research can include these variables to make the model even more reliable and accurate.
